Morning Announcements
Monday November 3 2025

We are located on the traditional unceded, and unsurrendered territories of the Anishinaabek and Haudenosaunee, who have inhabited and cared for these lands since time immemorial. We take this time to express our gratitude and respect to them and to the land for all that it has provided and will continue to provide. We acknowledge the history, the on-going impacts, and systems of colonialism. We are committed to learning more to promote healing and resilience as we move forward in true reconciliation. We are dedicated to building a future and community that is better for all.

This is National Treaties Recognition Week. Treaties are agreements between First Nations and the Crown that were meant to ensure we live together in peace, friendship, and respect. Treaties continue to shape our lives today, and we all share a responsibility to learn about and honour them, because we are all treaty people. We invite you to take time this week to learn whose treaty land we are on and how we can live in good relationship with each other and the land. In what we currently called Canada, First Nations and the Crown made treaties to share the land, protect rights, and support one another. For Indigenous Peoples, treaties were made in ceremony and were meant to last as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow.

Treaties remind us to live in a good way, honour our commitments, and care for Mother Earth.

This is National Treaties Recognition Week. Today we honour the Two Row Wampum Treaty, one of the first agreements between the Haudenosaunee and European newcomers. The wampum belt has two purple lines representing two paths: a European ship and an Indigenous canoe, travelling side-by-side without interfering with each other.
